Essential Living Foods: The Who, Where and Wow of Our Sources

Essential Living Foods' CEO, Kipp Stroden recently took a trip down to Peru, braving extreme conditions and winding back country roads to bring us the Essential Living Foods Superfoods we know and love. He walked us through his entire journey with thought provoking insights on the 
culture and breathtaking photographs of the local flora. It's so refreshing to have a first hand view of the actual people who harvest, where they live, what the landscape looks like, instead of some impersonal warehouse or distributor.



Here are some excerpts from his travels

"I met super talented Indigenous cacao farmer (pictured left) growing a Criollo variety of Organic cacao in Peru. An amazing project we are involved in in Peru that has coached an entire indigenous group in cutting edge growing techniques that has radically increased the health of their trees and their yields. While we were there other farmers from the area came by and asked to be part of the project. Another example of how people seeking health from plants that have unique wisdom can have direct impact communities around the world. Its real, I see it over and over again." 




Each person and each farmer has a story

"This is Olympico: a strong, healthy passionate 70 year old Camu Camu farmer who lives near Rio Negro Peru. I was so happy to learn that the camu camu farm he has grown along with demand for this magical fruit from 2 hectares to now 20 hectares. He was so happy we visited his farm and were honoring the work he does."





Extreme Agriculture

"Near Junin Peru-Drove over one of the highest passes (almost 16,000 ft) in the world to get the Junin the center of Maca production in Peru. Visited one of our partners farms via 4x4. One of the gnarliest drives of my life. The farm was on top of the world as you can see and beautiful. This is the time to sow seeds and I witnessed an ancient practice of a male and female farmer planting together to create balanced energies for the success of the harvest. These are the people that you are co-creating with by buying ELF Maca. Our choices as to where to spend our dollars are truly impactful, I was so touched and honored to be part of this."
