Sunday, March 7th, the Los Angeles Raw Food Bazaar was home to the Best of Raw Truly Raw Cacao Recipe Contest.  22 RAW chefs from around the country submitted recipes and hand-delivered or even MAILED samples to be tasted by the panel of judges (who probably had quite a lot of fun in the tasting room, getting wacky on cacao).

Ben Ripple, the inventor of the machinery that makes Truly Raw Cacao Powder and Cacao Butter possible (and the founder of the Beyond Organic, Beyond Fair Trade cooperative of small farmers who grow it), was on hand and addressed the crowd.

Our office was just awarded a Santa Monica Green Business certification! It's nice to be recognized as a leader in the sustainable business community for our efforts at keeping a small footprint. Particular highlights include our daylighting (skylights instead of electric lights), low-flow water devices, recycled paper products, biodegradable packaging, solar power, and carbon offset credits (for all of our food shipping). We didn't do all this for any certification, though--we did it because of our commitment to a healthier world--but it is nice to have our efforts acknowledged!

February 2009

Our carbon offset program is getting a lot of attention!  We are importing all of our food products in a completely CARBON NEUTRAL way!  Most of the food we sell comes from overseas in cargo ships, which are extremely efficient and low emissions (13 times less than trucks!).  And what little carbon dioxide is emitted, we are offsetting by purchasing credits from the NorthEast cap and trade system.  Sustainable Shipping recently ran a lead article about us and this program.  We encourage everyone to reduce your carbon footprint, and to find out how easy and inexpensive it can be to offset!

We were a sponsor of the Huffington Post Oasis at the Democratic National Convention.  All of the thousands of visitors at the Oasis loved the superfood truffles, trail mix, and smoothies we were serving, and we got mentioned a number of times for our great tasting foods.
